Background
Greece is undergoing a large-scale expansion of wind farms. The rapid expansion of wind energy in Greece contributes to the country's energy transition goals. However, it also results in unequal distribution of benefits and burdens.
Intro
This project focuses on the spatial and temporal cumulative impacts of wind farms. Taking Euboea as the research site, it critically examines the shortcomings of Greece's current environmental impact assessment framework for wind energy projects. Through maps and future scenario simulation, this project attempts to explore and explain how wind farms have an impact in four dimensions by changing local weather and climate conditions. In order to better evaluate the environmental impact of wind farms and more fairly measure the multi-dimensional impact of wind farms on the surrounding areas in space and time, this project attempts to reclarify that the value of land used to build wind farms is not limited to two-dimensional space, but crosses time and space dimensions through the impact on the environment and climate.
We redefine EIA as a tool to imagine, calculate, and simulate thefuture, not as instruments for capital gain. Wind farm impacts on future climate must become a central concern of Greece's EIA system.
