ARTIST BIOYiming Sun is an interdisciplinary artist based in Shanghai and Hangzhou. After completing her Master's degree in Environmental Architecture at the Royal College of Art, she began focusing on the creation of site-responsive works. Her practice bridges digital technologies with ecological thinking, integrating artistic sensibilities with spatial and environmental analysis.
During her studies in the UK, she conducted field research on the Greek islands of Crete and Euboea, investigating how wind farms influence local weather and climatic conditions across multiple dimensions. By examining the definitions of wind rights and land rights, as well as the unequal distribution of burdens and benefits, her collaborative project “Invisible Burdens” redefined the value of land used to build wind farms as extending beyond two-dimensional space, encompassing time and space dimensions through its impact on the environment and climate.
Her Media Studies project “Speed = Distance/Time” emerged from observations of everyday consumption patterns among London residents. Focusing on the widespread use of thermal printing, the project explores its significance in contemporary society, reflects on the disappearance of memory, and prompts critical thinking about the overlooked objects that shape everyday life. Works from this project were exhibited at the GLUE Book Fair in London in 2025.
Alongside her artistic practice, she has extensive experience in handling geographic and ecological data, which provides a solid foundation for creating scientifically grounded artworks. This combination of creative, technical, and ecological knowledge informs her approach to building compelling, site-responsive, and forward-thinking work.
